study –
Ventilation/Extraction system
The
client
Greenway Industries - a non-ferrous scrap metal processing company having two
oxygen-fueled back tilting rotary furnaces - one at 5 tons and one at 14 tons - processing
over 5 million metric tons per month.
The challenge
DBS was asked to provide
an environmentally-friendly
extraction system with properly
rated baghouses to maintain
emissions below standards at
a aluminum smelting operation
for the rotary furnaces.
The scope of work
DBS designed, built and installed
a complete extraction system
including engineering, concrete
foundations, structural steel,
custom hood, ductwork, dust
collectors (four modules) and
computerized controls to modulate
operation of dust collectors
for maximum efficiency.
The results
Greenway realized increased
production, decreased fixed
costs of running both the furnaces
and the extraction equipment
and fewer system breakdowns.
The new system provided a better
interior environment for workers
and minimized furnace down
time. Greenway expects that
to enjoy a significant life
expectancy of the equipment.
Results have been such that
a new rotary furnace will be
put into operation with the
same extraction system to achieve
similar results. |
